The work of a renowned and beloved local resident and artist was on display on August 28th. The Carrollton New Orleans senior living community shared the beautiful work of Rise Delmar Ochsner, whose paintings are known internationally. The special showing was free and open to the public. Two of the paintings will remain part of a permanent exhibit at The Carrollton.

“We were pleased to invite the community into our building so they can experience its beauty while also viewing the magnificent artwork of local artists. Rise, in particular, is a distinguished painter, known throughout the world. We are delighted that she calls The Carrollton home and that she generously shared her beautiful paintings for our exhibit,” said Justin Churchwell, Activities Director for The Carrollton New Orleans.

Over the years, Ochsner’s work has included commissioned portraits of Queen Noor of Jordan, Paul Prudhomme, Emeril Lagasse, and all chefs who have won the Robert Mondavi Culinary Works of Excellence Award. She has had her work exhibited at prestigious galleries and museums worldwide.

Additionally, Ochsner is widely known as having been a talented and well-respected ophthalmologist for many years. A highly esteemed family in New Orleans, her father-in-law founded the Ochsner Clinic, which eventually became the flagship hospital of Ochsner Health.

The work of exceptional local artists has been integral to The Carrollton New Orleans since it first opened its doors as the senior living community. Built in 1855, it was originally a courthouse and then a series of public schools. It eventually closed in 2013. In 2022, Liberty Senior Living and Felicity Property Co. joined forces to revitalize the building into the senior living community, meticulously renovating and expanding it. During the construction, the development partners decided to honor the building’s locale by assembling a collection of artworks created by talented area artists to be on permanent display. The team worked with Arts New Orleans to curate works by local and regional artists to complement the building’s beauty, character, and surroundings. The resulting Carrollton Collection features work by more than 40 local and regional artists.

“The greater New Orleans area has so much to share in terms of culture, history, beauty, vibrancy, and talent. We’re proud to be part of the community and are excited to be able to share our fabulous building and the wonderful artwork!” said Churchwell. “Living here is like living in a magnificent art gallery. We encourage residents of the greater New Orleans area to stop in and see our building, which is a masterpiece in and of itself.”
